Mr Chander Khera, Member of ACHRE Management Committee has attended the Australia-Vietnam Dialogue Debrief organised by Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Canberra and reported as follows.

Awareness of human rights in various Vietnamese agencies is increasing. Vietnam is in the process of preparing a report on the development of a National Human Rights Institution, which is a positive development. There is a review of Vietnamese constitution – which is an evidence of growing openness. Further evidence of openness was an increase in involvement of unions and work being done on labour laws, such as, introduction of six months maternity leave.

While in Australia, Vietnamese delegation met the Australian Human Rights Commission, paid a visit to the NSW Land and Environment Court and had a briefing on Australian mediation process in land dispute. DFAT made a special mention of ACHRE (Nina Burridge) being one of three NGOs present during the technical visit.
