Poverty Summit 2019 held in South Australia

As part of the Citizen for Humanity Project (CHP) for students and youth in communities across all educational sectors in South Australia, a Poverty Summit was held at the Adelaide Festival Centre. With over 300 students and 20 teachers attending from 24 different schools, this Summit was facilitated by the UN Youth. Aiming to raise awareness of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) with a focus on “poverty”, the attendees explored the SDG’s in local and global contexts in groups and participated in discussion with several expert panels.

There is opportunity in Term 4, 2019 for schools to participate in further workshops to explore ways of creating collaborative local-global strategies/solutions to the SDG’s. This will be brought together in a three-day long residential conference where students can learn about a particular theme. The conference is open to Years 10-12 students, with space for up to 97 participants. The event is financially accessible to all students via a bursary program.

Proposed date/s of forthcoming events:

10 December for the UN Youth open summit (International Human Rights Day)

13-15 March 2020  for SA UN Youth Conference
