Online Discussion: Uluru Statement from the Heart

Professor Larissa Behrendt AO will host an online discussion with Linda Burney MP and Nakkiah Lui on the Uluru Statement from the Heart. The speakers will discuss the significance of the Uluru Statement from the Heart, discussing the essential elements being called for and progress made to date. Participants will be invited to pose questions to our speakers.

About the speakers:
Professor Larissa Behrendt AO, a Eualeyai/Kamillaroi woman, is a legal academic, writer, filmmaker and Indigenous rights advocate. She is Professor of Law and Director of Research and Academic Programs at the Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education and Research at the University of Technology Sydney, and holds the inaugural Chair in Indigenous Research.

Linda Burney MP, a Wiradjuri woman, is Shadow Minister for Families and Social Services and for Preventing Family Violence in the Federal Parliament. She was the first Aboriginal person to serve in the New South Wales Parliament in 2003, and also the first Aboriginal woman to be elected to the Australian House of Representatives in 2016.

Nakkiah Lui, a Gamilaroi/Torres Strait Islander woman, is a writer, comedian and young leader in the Indigenous community. Nakkiah has a new Audible Originals podcast hosted with Miranda Tapsell, Debutante: Race, Resistance and Girl Power, striking up conversations of race, feminism and politics for a new generation. www.jessiestreettrust.org.au
