Consulate General of Timor Leste

March 29, 2021

“The Invitation to meet with Mr. Luciano Valentim da Conceicao, Consul General of Timor-Leste in Sydney to discuss collaboration on human rights projects was delightful”, says ACHRE committee member Lynda Blanchard. The Consul General spoke of the prospect of a documentary about a significant and untold story of human rights and social justice involving a prominent family in Timor-Leste’s independence struggle, ‘stolen’ children and rescued children who came to live in Australia. The Australian Council for Human Rights Education (ACHRE) has been supportive of human rights initiatives of regional neighbour Timor-Leste, including providing over a hundred “Citizen of Humanity” certificates for the university student training programme “Women, Leadership & Peace” and ongoing collaboration with both the Human Rights Centre and Peace Centre of the National University of Timor Lorosa’e (UNTL).
