South East Asia (SEA) Lecture with Jose Ramos-Horta

ACHRE was invited to join the SEA Lecture Hall with guest speaker Dr. Jose Ramos-Horta and nearly 1,000 online participants (tertiary teachers and students) from the region. Speaking on peace, security and human rights in the region, the Nobel Laureate and former President of Timor-Leste stated:

“There are some preliminary problems leaders have to urgently look at… It’s not possible for individual countries to resolve the problems of the entire region. There has to be an increasing strengthening of ASEAN partnerships, or greater dialogue within ASEAN and between ASEAN and Northeast Asia.”

Australia became ASEAN’s first Dialogue Partner in 1974 and became Strategic Partners in 2014. Australia and ASEAN have an agreed Plan of Action covering the breadth of cooperation, which is updated every five years.

The Southeast Asia Lecture Hall is a series of 10 virtual lectures from world-class scholars that will be delivered online to students from across all 11 Southeast Asian countries. There are approximately 50 regional university partners involved in the program and the online lectures are free. Initiated by Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia, the Southeast Asia Lecture Hall is the first program of its kind in the region and the series runs from August 2021 to March 2022.
