ACHRE member Ms. Mai Ni Pham was honoured to visit EBC Dom Baumeta Sucoliurai, a mountain school in Timor-Leste, as part of the ASEAN-Australia BRIDGE Program from July 3-10. Throughout the week, I observed a range of engaging PE volleyball, English, and Science lessons from primary to Year 10. At times, I made the journey to the school on foot, which provided valuable insight into the geographical challenges faced by students—especially during heavy rains or when roads become impassable. These barriers highlighted the resilience of the school community and the importance of supporting equitable access to education. The BRIDGE Program, supported by the Australian Government and Asialink Education, is fostering meaningful partnerships and intercultural understanding between Australian and Southeast Asian schools. This experience has deepened my appreciation for education’s role in promoting human rights, and I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of this valuable initiative.
